Help For Sunworks And Solcius Customers

Sunworks, a solar company headquartered in Provo, Utah, bought the residential installer Solcius in 2021 and filed for Chapter 7 liquidation in February 2024. If either company installed your system, the company behind your workmanship warranty no longer operates. Here is what reports say and where to start.

What Happened

The Solar Power World report of February 8, 2024 says Sunworks, a residential and commercial solar developer, and three of its subsidiaries filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, according to a document the company submitted to the Securities and Exchange Commission. It quotes the filing as saying Sunworks' assets "will be liquidated" and says executives transferred company authority to the bankruptcy court. It also says Sunworks was founded in 2002, developed 224 MW of solar projects in 15 states, and expanded nationally by acquiring Solcius in 2021.

The pv magazine USA report of February 9, 2024 dates the SEC filing to February 5, 2024, and says that under Chapter 7 a trustee would be appointed to liquidate the company's assets and settle liabilities. It lists the company's markets as California, Texas, the Southwest, the Carolinas, Florida, and the Northeast, and reports that the residential segment's revenue fell 44.5 percent year over year in the third quarter of 2023.

What Happened To Customer Records

The Solar Power World report of March 31, 2025 says service company EnergyAid announced it had acquired Sunworks and Solcius intellectual property, including customer data and monitoring sites, so it could monitor and maintain existing systems. The same report says EnergyAid planned to launch a membership program on April 1, 2025, with proactive monitoring, remote troubleshooting, and priority scheduling with discounted rates for repair and maintenance.

That is one company's announcement. The reports we read do not say that anyone took on Sunworks or Solcius workmanship warranties. You are not required to use any particular service company, and you can compare it with local licensed contractors.

Who Covers What Now

LayerWhere To Go
PanelsThe panel manufacturer, with serial numbers from the labels
Inverter, optimizers, or microinvertersThe inverter manufacturer
Workmanship and roof penetrationsPlan as if this layer is gone unless you have separate coverage
LoanYour lender. EnergySage guide to installer bankruptcy (updated January 7, 2026) says that in most cases you still owe the monthly payments after an installer closes.

If You Lost Money

If you paid a deposit for work that was never done, or have a claim for faulty work, a Chapter 7 case may have a claims process run by the trustee. Ask a bankruptcy attorney whether a claim is still possible in your situation.

Next Steps

  1. Gather your contract, permit, equipment list, and loan papers. Note whether Sunworks or Solcius is named.
  2. Call your panel and inverter makers to confirm active warranties and ask for certified installers near you.
  3. Move monitoring into your own name through the inverter maker. See Solar Monitoring Stopped Working.
  4. If production has dropped, see Solar System Not Producing. If the roof is leaking near the array, see Roof Leak Around Solar Panels.
  5. Before hiring anyone, check the license with your state agency and get a written scope. California owners can start with Solar Owner Help In California, and Florida owners with Solar Owner Help In Florida.
Be careful with anyone who calls or knocks unprompted claiming to be your solar company, or offering to take over your contract for a fee. Verify through the numbers on your own paperwork, your lender, or the company named in an official notice.
