Solar Monitoring Stopped Working
An app that shows no data does not always mean your panels stopped. Often the equipment lost its internet connection. First work out which problem you have.
Step 1: Is The System Still Producing
- Look at the inverter and any local display. Note that a gateway light mostly shows power and internet connection, not how much your panels are producing.
- Compare your electric meter or utility bill with past months. A sudden jump in grid use points to a real production problem.
Step 2: Think About What Changed
The most common cause is a new router, a changed Wi-Fi name, or a changed Wi-Fi password. Enphase points to this in its support material.
Enphase Systems
Enphase support says a solid green gateway light means it is powered and connected to the Enphase cloud, a flashing green light means it is trying to connect, and an amber or red light means it reached the local network but not the cloud. For a gateway that has power but is not reporting, it says to restart the gateway by unplugging it or turning it off for about 60 seconds, check the Wi-Fi name and password, and restart the router. Enphase has a separate guide for reconnecting a gateway to Wi-Fi in the Enphase App, and says some gateways may not connect to a 5 GHz-only network, so a 2.4 GHz network may be needed. SolarEdge Systems
SolarEdge publishes support pages on missing production data and on communication alerts. Follow the current steps on those pages for your inverter and monitoring platform: SolarEdge support page on missing production data and SolarEdge alert troubleshooting guide.
Other Equipment
Other brands use their own apps and gateways. Search your brand's support site for "offline" or "not reporting" with your model number.
Basic Steps That Help Across Brands
- Restart your router, then restart the monitoring gateway if the maker's guide allows.
- Update the Wi-Fi password on the device through the maker's app.
- Move the router closer or use a wired connection if the maker supports it.
- Take screenshots of any error and note the date the data stopped.
When The Account Is The Problem
If your installer owned the monitoring account, you may need the manufacturer to move it to your own login. This is common after a company closes. See Installer Went Out Of Business.
